The Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival began as a local celebration to showcase the town's stunning autumn scenery and its unique Victorian architecture. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of the most anticipated events in northeastern Pennsylvania, attracting thousands of visitors from near and far, eager to experience the best of Jim Thorpe's historic charm and outdoor adventures.
When & Where
The 2026 Fall Foliage Festival is traditionally held during the first three full weekends of October: October 3–4, October 10–11, and October 17–18. To get to Jim Thorpe, follow Route 209 or take the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. For the most vibrant foliage, we recommend visiting during the second or third weekend.

From Mauch Chunk to Jim Thorpe
Originally named Mauch Chunk — derived from the Lenni Lenape phrase Mawsch Unk, meaning "Bear Mountain" — the town was a vital 19th-century hub for coal and rail. In 1954, it was renamed Jim Thorpe to honor the legendary Native American Olympic athlete, despite him never having lived there.
Millionaire's Row
In the late 1800s, the town's Broadway was home to 13 millionaires — including industrialist Asa Packer — reputedly making it the town with the most millionaires per capita in the world. The opulent mansions that line this stretch are now among the most visited landmarks in the Poconos.
