Pour Over Brewing

Pour over brewing is a simple yet elegant way to brew coffee at home. It allows for a greater level of control over the brewing process, resulting in a clean and nuanced cup of coffee. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of brewing a delicious and complex cup of our Costa Rican San Lorenzo Tarrazu using a pour over dripper.

Materials

Instructions

  1. Place a filter in your pour over dripper, place the dripper over a mug, and rinse the filter thoroughly with hot water. This will warm your equipment and prevent a papery taste from transferring to the coffee. Dispose of the rinse water.

  2. Grind your coffee to a medium-fine grind size for most pour over drippers. If you’re using a V60, try a medium grind. Use 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water.

  3. Pour the ground coffee into the dripper and shake it gently to level the coffee out.

  4. Start your timer and pour just enough hot water over the coffee to wet it evenly. Pour the water in a smooth, circular motion. Allow the coffee to bloom for 25 to 30 seconds.

  5. Slowly pour your remaining water over the coffee in the same motion as before.

  6. Allow the coffee to brew for 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. Gently swirl your mug and enjoy.

The instructions above serve as a great starting point but don’t be afraid to experiment with different coffee to water ratios, temperatures, and brewing times to create your own perfect cup.

For a truly immersive experience, consider our Tour of Central America, which contains three, 12 oz. bags of our small batch specialty coffee.
